Urban displacement

Lead researchers from the WHIT project, Dolf te Lintelo and Ayselin Yildiz participated in an online workshop on 18 February. It was hosted by a team of researchers at the University of Utrecht, to present a paper entitled ‘Protracted urban displacement and incremental housing infrastructures in Torbali, Turkey’. The paper will be launched soon.

Workshop participant pairings reviewed each other’s draft papers. WHIT findings for Izmir/Torbali were presented, and great feedback received from reviewers, to help bring the paper to submission status for a special issue of the International Journal for Housing Studies.

Dolf te Lintelo also participated in a CARA (Council for At Risk Academics) ‘writeshop’ in Istanbul from 16–20 March. This was in his role as an academic mentor to a team of displaced Syrian academics living in exile in Turkey.

Together, a draft journal article was prepared on the topic of land registries in Syrian cities governed by non-state actors, and its role in the process towards achieving enduring peace in the country.
