World Architecture Day

World Architecture Day is celebrated on the first Monday of October each year, in parallel with UN World Habitat Day. It celebrates the work that architects undertake, as well as recognising the important role that architecture has in society.

As part of the Wellbeing, Housing and Infrastructure in Turkey (WHIT) project, architecture students from Umeå University in Sweden and Yaşar University in Turkey are working with Syrian refugees and low-income Turkish residents. Together, they are creating a new community rooftop space at the TIAFI Community Centre in İzmir, Turkey.

To find out more, visit the World Architecture News website where this work was recently profiled.

The Wellbeing, Housing and Infrastructure in Turkey (WHIT) project is funded by the British Academy’s Urban Infrastructures of Well-Being 2019 Programme, supported under the UK Government’s Global Challenges Research Fund.
